Many years ago, my parents took a cruise through the Inside Passage of the Pacific Northwest, and my father brought home hundreds of beautiful photographs that he took along the way. These photos were used as inspiration for a three-spread travel article about this scenic stretch of islands, inlets and rugged coastline snaking from the northwest corner of Washington state along Canada and into Alaska.

 

Rather than using photographs for all images, I used several as references for color pencil renderings to give the travel journal theme a more authentic feel.
